Our History

The History of St Mary’s CE Primary School

The history of our school is a fascinating journey; from its humble beginnings in the 18th Century to St Mary’s transformation into a Free School. The ‘History of St Mary’s Primary’ as written by Peter Kyles, the Principal of St Mary’s from 2013-2026, is a narrative that sheds light on the evolving educational practices throughout the 19th Century, and socioeconomic factors that have helped shaped our school as we know it today.

Remembering Peter Kyles

Principal of St Mary’s 2013-2026

Peter Kyles made an exceptional contribution to St Mary’s and the wider Dilwyn community during his time as Principal. As Principal from 2013 until 2026, he helped shape our school, our values and our vision for the children and families served.

Peter’s dedication to education, his warmth and his commitment to “living, loving & learning together” have left a lasting legacy. His influence will continue to be felt in the life of the school and in the many pupils, families and colleagues whose lives he touched.

We remember Peter with great affection and gratitude, and extend our continued thoughts and prayers to Sally, his family and all those who knew and loved him.
