About St. Mary’s

St Mary’s CE Primary School was built in 1845 to provide education for the children of the Parish; the school sits adjacent to St Mary’s Church and has strong links with the Parish and the local community. For over 175 years the school has provided excellent education based on traditional Christian values, and it is our intention, through care and gentleness, to nurture Christian values so that ‘living, loving and learning’ are at the heart of our school. Today our children come from far and wide, attracted by our positive ethos uuand high academic results.

St Mary’s is a small thriving village school providing education to pupils aged between 4 and 11 years. There are three main classes; Early Years, Lower Juniors and Upper Juniors. We have sourced experienced teachers to educate throughout our school and our small classes ensure that our excellent teaching team can provide support or challenges to individual pupils as required.

In January 2013 the Department of Education granted St Mary’s CE Primary School free school status. Meaning we are funded by the government and are independent of the local authority, therefore allowing us more freedom to broaden and enrich our curriculum, ensuring we provide our children with a solid foundation for their futures.

We are proud to have a wide range of outdoor areas to enrich our children’s learning experiences outside of the classroom. Early Years have immediate access to a designated outdoor area to encourage, develop and support their learning. All of our children benefit from a wide range of amenities including a playground, an extensive school field and wildlife garden with a willow arbor, chicken coop and vegetable beds, and local woodland where we go for our Forest School sessions. In addition, the neighbouring village hall provides us ample opportunity for indoor sport, music, dance and drama.

Choices of hot lunches are available every day and parents may order from a weekly menu or children can be provided with a healthy packed lunch. Children have easy access to drinking water throughout the day and at morning break, to encourage healthy eating, fresh fruit is available to all our pupils.
